In Australia – Swimming With Dolphins

March 24, 2006 by emmyrose

I went swimming with the dolphins in Glenelg, this small beach town just outside the city. Suited up in a wetsuit and snorkel, we set off on a 3 hour cruise along the coastline. As I was in the water snorkeling around, this dolphin swam right underneath me!!! Cool!

Met an American on the boat who I hung out with at the beach for the rest of the day. Tried oysters for the first time. They’re quite popular during happy hour … not a huge surprise considering how yummy they are!

The day was a blast, but learned the important lesson that apparently sunscreen IS crucial when you’re lying on a beach. Was I ever red the next day … and the day after that … and the day after that … and the day after that.

In Australia – March 15

Hard to believe that I’ve been here a whole month … time sure flies! The weekdays keep me quite busy as I’m working full time at the hospital. I’m really enjoying it and am finding it extremely rewarding. Some of my patients keep me laughing the whole day, it’s fantastic! A patient was discharged home on Friday (after almost 4 months of therapy) and it was actually quite teary to see him go. The physios in my office are pretty social, so we’re always going out for lunch together or meeting up for drinks after work. It’s funny hanging out with them when I’m “the student” but they treat as one of the staff and make me feel right at home. Had my midterm review last week too and lucky for me, they’re going to let me stay!!!! That’s great news considering my tan could still use a lot more work.

I must say I love finishing a packed day at work, throwing on my bikini, and heading down to the beach for some sun … and perhaps if I’ve been good, I’ll treat myself to a gelati … my new fave snack!

I’ve been trying to get around Adelaide as much as possible when I’m not at work. It’s definitely a pretty laid back city, not a lot of exciting night life, but I’m checking out what’s here anyways. A friend of mine went back to New Zealand 2 weeks ago, so it’s a little more quiet now. Had another climb up Mt Lofty … it’s becoming my weekly spiritual ritual. I love the climb up … but more importantly, the reward at the top!
